The Severed Head
claudio_carvalho29 December 2022
Dr. Robbins receives a pack with a severed head sent by Lieutenant Alan Brooks found in Jackpot town. Grissom drives to the place to investigate the case and soon he finds the rest of the body, buried in a hole and murdered with signs of torture. They identify the victim, the Art student Ross Jenson, and Lt. Brooks sabotage Grissom's work from the beginning. The coroner Dr. Dale Sterling is the only authority to support his work. Meanwhile Catherine and Capt. Brass investigate the room Jenson shared with his mate Eric. Their further investigation shows dark secrets in the Brooks' family.

"Jackpot" is a great episode of "CSI", with Grissom working against "strange forces" but resolving his case. The participation of the cult Jeffrey Combs is a plus in the show. The secret of the Brooks' family disclosed in the end is well disclosed in the plot. My vote is eight.

Grissom, Grissom and more Grissom

Ohh and the Character Actors Henry Czerny and Jeffrey Combs. Subtle, simple but great acting. Also the scenery is wonderful and the background music goes great with the quirky often eccentric town that bleeds over into the episode. Which, all in all, is a nice change from the often dark, brooding and multi-directional plot scenarios of almost all CSI episodes. Once again William Peterson shows why, over his lengthy career, he has developed into a charismatic lead actor. He carries this episode and does it with ease. Like any long-running and successful drama or comedy TV series, there will be some good episodes and bad episodes. Many times creators will go back to what worked at first, when they are scared of failure or either trying to resurrect a dying show. The writers and creators of CSI were in neither situation, so they had freedom to run with Jackpot, and they succeeded in the chances they took - in spades. This episode is totally unique in many ways for CSI, while providing the distinct CSI flavor, of a forensic mystery. But the experiments(i.e. the chances) the writers took with things such as a different setting, 90% of the acting done by the male lead and non-series, but experienced character actors, and even humor. Yes, humor in a CSI and they pull it off many time in Jackpot. In a strange way it mirrors the David Lynch much hyped but short lived drama, "Twin Peaks". And CSI's Jackpot is delicious episodic television entertainment.

William Petersen at His Best

Grissom is a one of a kind character. When he left the show, it really lost a lot. This involves a trip to a little town called Jackpot in the middle of nowhere. The Doc gets a disembodied head in the mail and Grissom takes off to try to discover the body. He encounters a group of locals, especially the sheriff, who have that keep your distance mentality. This has been done be many writers before. The Sheriff can't quite accept Grissom's by the book being and resents having to go out of his way to help him. There are all kinds of secrets going on and some history that gets in the way. There is also a touching conclusion. This is one of the better CSI's in the long running series.

Easily one of the best

So many reasons this is one of the best CSI episodes...The episode features mostly Grissom(which in and of itself is a treat) but it also has the one and only Jeffrey Combs as the town coroner of the one horse town Grissom finds himself in. The storyline is fantastic with a few interesting twists and turns and as a side storyline we have Herschel ...ahem...I mean Scott Wilson playing Catherine's father Sam. All in all a great cast and storyline bump this one from an average episode to a top notch one :)

Best Episode ever I Love you Grissom
ivo-cobra825 March 2013
Been A big fan of CSI and i still i am.This is my first review of this show and I love "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: so much.I have been watching this show since it arrive on air. I saw a lot of episodes over the past few years on TV. But i never finished seeing all episodes in a complete Season. After Season 9 come i was really surprised and disappointed that Gil Grissom left the show and Laurence Fishburne replaced him in 2009. In 2011 Ted Danson replaced Laurence. This show is really going downhill fast to me. Without Gill and Catherine Willows this show is nothing. They were heart and soul of CSI and they still are. New characters are just hurting CSI and giving bad reputation i am surprised that CBS is still running them on air after what they did. CSI: Miami spin off CSI got canceled in April 8. 2012 and CSI : NY the third spin off was canceled February 22. ,this year a month ago after nine years on air. When i am watching from the beginning from the First Season that it aired in Oct. 6, 2000 Then this show was much better, awesome and it rocks like really hard, than the show it is now. After i saw the first three Seasons i thought Season 3 was the best of the first two but now actually i am considering The Fourth Season as best one. Season 4 is so far the best of the best Season in the long time running show it has the best episodes ever made, that you are even hooked up on it. I am so happy that they made more tense and excitement than in past three Seasons. No joke so far i saw first six episodes and i was really hooked up. In season 2 - 3 i was really bored mostly in Season 3. Some episodes were the best some were bad. But in Season 4 neither one episode disappointed me and this Season is awesome the best.Episode Jackpot is all about Gil Grissom all about him i love him so much. After a head of a body is sent to Dr.Al Robbins, Gill travels to desolate town Jackpot in Nevada to investigate the murder that head was found of body, he come cross on a sheriff who is more cynical than helpful unlike the veterinarian-coroner who helps him. Gill must work alone in the town to solve this case quickly as possible. Henry Czerny and Jeffrey Combs stars opposite in this episode. Great acting, great script best episode in the show. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season Four is the best. You wan 't be disappointed with this Season. Also Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) and Nick Stokes (George Eads) dose not appear in this episode. This is the first time in three years of running that i have noticed that they both aren't in an episode CSI. Jackpot is unique and wonderful performed by actor William Petersen and actress Marg Helgenberger. 10 out of 10.
