Hard to Watch

I can't imagine what it would be like to be a burn victim. The episode begins with two people being burned. One dies; the other is burned over 80% of her body. This leads to a series of deaths, including a small child. Two families, friends, are thrust together and time reveals some ugly realities. An interesting aspect of this one is Greg's knowledge of what is involved with a burn victim, giving him trauma.

Tragic

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is pretty far fetched yet interesting to watch because there are so many possibilities as to what happened. Yet one of the things that really bothered me towards the end is that if a person were shot in the head, as one victim was, it seems there would be waaaayy more splatter to show where it happened than the show portrays. The script wants us to believe there would be just a few closely placed drops of blood that later were covered up by a puddle. Yet, especially if you watch shows like this, the audience knows there would be bone and brain matter along with blood on the opposite wall, the floor, the bed, etc. So that part was very contrived.

The situation between the families itself...it is what it is. It's pretty unrealistic but it made the show interesting to watch. Let's just say, I used to work in level 1 trauma, and it's pretty difficult for a person to set themselves on fire without an accelerant. One patient tried it - twice. Vodka by itself is not enough. At least I think that's what the character used. There was an awful lot going on between the innocent bystander at the start of the show who was ignored and the trucker who was pretty needlessly added in.

I like Tim Dekay a lot though, so it was good to see him featured. Funny that his name was Neal, when his costar on White Collar was also Neal.

A man is observing the sky with a telescope when, out of the blue, he is burned by a blaze. Grissom and Sara arrive to investigate the scene when Grissom finds a woman still live but completely burned. They believe it was arson and Sara uses the fingerprint in a broken bottle of cheap vodka to identify the truck driver Patrick Bromley. Meanwhile, Catherine, Warrick, Nick and Capt. Brass investigate the murder of the Stewart family, where the parents were shot and their five-year-old daughter Dani drowned in the swimming pull. Nick believes in the murder-suicide theory while processing the evidences. When they learn that the DNA in both cases belongs to the burned woman, they realize that the cases are the same.

"Spark of Life" is a tragic episode of "CSI". The episode begins with the independent cases that after the initial investigation merge into a case with complex resolution. The entire group of investigators team-up to resolve the puzzle. The hopeless situation of Tara Matthews is heartbreaking. My vote is eight.
