The Finger
Scarecrow-8824 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Super slick episode of CSI has Catherine running around with a murder suspect with a bloody finger linked to the man's girlfriend. So Catherine answers the phone and hears a squeaky voice which tells her to drop all her gear and drive Logan's car to a specific destination to make a "cash transaction". Logan(Tom Irwin)would trade a million bucks for his girlfriend..that's the kidnapper's deal. But all is not what it seems. The finger, wine glasses, curtain liner, peanut butter, glow paint on dollar bills, a piece of granite stone embedded in a skull, and someone negotiating the kidnapping trade wearing a bunny mask, packing heat..THE FINGER is a standard of excellence in writing and performance. The clues and chicanery involved, not to mention, Catherine's methods for leaving evidence through ingenious methods while unable to talk to her CSI colleagues, but the twist as to the identity of the killer is a humdinger which puts the icing on the cake. Lots of twists and turns in this one; I'm sure this is one that many consider as essential viewing for fans of the series.

The Masterpiece Plan

The constructor Roy Logan goes to his bank to withdraw one-million dollar cash, with blood on his hands and a suspicious behavior. Then he speeds-up near a police car and is brought to the precinct. The CSI immediately investigates him, but he is released since there is no crime. He forgets his sunglasses on the table of the interrogation room and Catherine rushes after him to return them to him. Out of the blue, Logan receives a phone call and tells Catherine that is for her. She is threatened and forced to leave all her objects, including her cell phone, weapon, purse and wallet, on the sidewalk and drive Logan's sport car. She learns that Logan's mistress Amanda Freeman has been abducted and he received her finger, and the kidnapper requested one-million dollar ransom to release her alive. They stop in a restaurant to eat while expecting the contact from the abductor and Catherine sees Sara dining in a dating. She does not talk to Sara and puts the severed finger in a glass of ice on her table. Then they drive to the place informed by the abductor and he comes wearing a rabbit mask and Logan delivers the wallet with the money to him without requesting any proof of life of Amanda. When they find the spot indicated by the kidnapper, they find Amanda body. Meanwhile, the CSI works with the evidences provided by Catherine and Logan looking for suspects.

"The Finger" is, so far, the best episode of "CSI" with a well-written story and screenplay of a masterpiece plan. The viewer is lured until the ending of the episode wrongly guessing who might be the killer. I was misled along the story and probably most of the audiences will also be. My vote is nine.

Hard to Match This One
Hitchcoc8 January 2021
The writing really gets ramped up at this point. This is about as slick as any of the CSI episodes. Catherine Willows is the central figure. She is brought into a ransom plot, driving a desperate man to various locations, bringing money to the kidnapper and locating his mistress, who has lost a finger (kept in a box). The beauty of this offering is that we are pulled right and left with Catherine as she find sympathy for this guy. There are some neat scenes, including Sara's little date where Catherine hands her a finger in a glass of ice, leaving a clue for the gang.

Wow!

Warning: Spoilers
This is definitely one of the best episodes of CSI I've ever seen, and that's saying something, as I've seen almost all of them before. It's clever, engaging, interesting, and a bit scary, too. In other words, it's perfect.

The basic premise: Catherine is at a bar when she meets a man who has found the finger of his wife in his home. They talk, and the man gets a phone call from a mystery person who tells them that they're being watched. He also says for them both to leave the café and drive to a certain location, or else face dire consequences.

But Catherine, being the quick thinker that she is, realizes something: Sara's on a date in the very same bar! So Catherine grabs the finger, puts it in a glass of ice water, and plunks it down on Sara's table as she walks out with the man. And now Sara and the rest of the CSI's have to figure out what's happening just from the one finger before it's too late for Catherine and the other man.

Overall, a very suspenseful, well-written, and awesome CSI episode. A definite must-see.

A must see episode!

Warning: Spoilers
The episode opens with a man withdrawing a million dollars at a bank with a very strange attitude. Everyone at the bank is suspicious. He manages to take the money with him, but the police stops him and takes him to the station to process. After a series of events, Katherine gets involved in a kidnapping case, following the kidnapper's orders and leaving clues behind her to be found by our CSIs, who actually find them knowing that Katherine is doing it on purpose.

The way the team works together, even Katherine working too from "inside" of the case, the twists in the plot and surprising ending make this episode worth watching.

Great episode; bad reviewers

Really good episode. It keeps you guessing all the time.

I guess there's one thing that bothers me about the previous reviews. The reviewers never seem to get the plots or their developments correct. There is one reviewer who said that Catherine met Logan in a bar. That is incorrect. She drove the car to that Diner to wait for a call that they were expecting. Yes, her colleague Sara is dining with a date but Catherine does not leave her a finger in a glass of ice water. She leaves the finger in a glass of ice to preserve it for them to get information off of it that they can. And there is another reviewer who doesn't know that Catherine spells her name with a C not a K.
