Review - Slaughterhouse The grizzly story of a family murdered by a weakling parent is haunting, opening with a bloody- pajamas toddler, wandering along the neighborhood sidewalk away from where a massacre has occurred. Most guest actors have few speaking parts since the story has them gone as the opening scenes unfold. The CSI cast splits time at the sole crime location or their lab.

We are able to see in flashbacks how things occurred, but the finale is saved for the viewer. We are not aware who the actual killer was until the fourth quarter. Evidence has a way of telling the methodical tale of who shot whom, although, at what seems a snails pace. It is better to be thorough and come to the correct conclusion than to screw up and convict the wrong person, even posthumously.

The camera shots of the filthy kitchen lead to the confirmation of the mother's inability to cope with two pre-school children and keeping the house tidy. The kids would pick up after themselves, but would not clean, yet realistically there are only two of the four that are capable of pitching in to help with household chores. Sad images included the microwave beeping end-of-cycle with the heated baby-bottle, relying on the nine-year-old to feed the baby and lunch brought home by the sixteen-year-old to help feed siblings. Brother Tim was at the computer desk playing games, gunned down from the rear by his own father; Tim was nine years old. Speed remarks something about how much of a threat Tim was, making a point of the overall coward the father was.

Megan takes a back seat in this episode, staying in the lab processing blood for DNA. Alexx is at the crime scene helping zip up the body bags to the sixteen year old Luke and his infant sibling. Alexx also appears in the lab offering findings to Horatio on the oldest son, Luke, which was a somber moment, considering Luke saved his sister from certain death and was attempting to bring his infant brother to safety from his horrible father when he was gunned down, the brother in his arms.

It is insulting to think the killer-father pleads insanity to these murders because he was too spineless to help at home, rather than shunning his responsibilities to keep the family together. Granted his wife was unstable, seeing a psychiatrist with prescribed medication, all the more reason for him to be a better parent. The mother's sister is a professional, at times travelling for a living, but does offer comfort when she can and knowing the husband hides at work complaining of the constant crying at home. Obviously the house was with adults that were unable to deal with raising a family, one adult went off the deep end.

The man pleads insanity after killing his wife and three children, ages 16, 9 and an infant; a disgusting individual. Even with an insanity verdict, the daughter can tell everyone her sixteen-year-old brother saved her life from a father that was sicker than mom ever was.

This episode is well-told, every scene making sense as the CSI team encounters new evidence crucial to solving the crime.
