Inexplicable behaviour? I think not...

Warning: Spoilers
In his review, jwb001 writes "rather than use the umbrella that he found to open the door through the hole, Taylor grabs the real estate agent's umbrella, rips off the fabric, and uses its skeleton to open the door. Completely inexplicable behavior."

Anyone who has seen enough CSI episodes should be aware that they can't always use the original tools to "science" i.e. Recreate events, as this could contaminate the evidence when testing a theory, so by using an alternative umbrella Mac proved how the original umbrella was used and trace can then test it, if necessary, without Mac's test affecting the results. Bear in mind that CSIs generally treat any evidence as though it might one day be presented to a jury and wouldn't want the defence questioning the integrity of their findings.

It also made for a funny moment. In shows like this, you need a few lighter moments to balance out all the killing, rape and other nasty things people do to one another.

Cringe-worthy writing

Warning: Spoilers
I usually don't write a user review for an episode of a television series, but after three instances of particularly bad writing in this episode of "CSI: NY", I made an exception.

1. Mac Taylor is trying to figure out how bank robbers gained access to an empty building that's for lease. He sees a hole in the exterior door. Outside, he finds the skeleton of an umbrella. An epiphany moment. However, rather than use the umbrella that he found to open the door through the hole, Taylor grabs the real estate agent's umbrella, rips off the fabric, and uses its skeleton to open the door. Completely inexplicable behavior.

2. The bank clerk / mother of a kidnapped infant wanted proof that her daughter still lives. Thus, the bank robbers brought the girl's bracelet to the bank during the robbery. That scene is so wrong from several different angles. A bracelet is proof of life?#@! They bring the bracelet to the breached vault, but the mother is upstairs?#@!

3. One bank robber got shot, nicking his carotid artery. He traveled from the bank in Chinatown to a Broadway theater before he bled out. Really? As even Mac Taylor said, "Long way to go".

Hopefully, this less-than-stellar writing is an aberration; otherwise, I'll find a different series to watch.

On a positive note, this episode had several instances of interesting forensic science.
