Where the elite meet to eat
bkoganbing17 February 2016
This particular Checkmate story brings the crew to the San Francisco Bay Harbor and particularly to the club on said harbor, the Yacht Club. This is a place that truly believes in the old motto at Duffy's Tavern, it's where San Francisco's elite meet to eat. It's run by Patricia Neal and come be her guest if you've the price of a meal.

She's brought Sebastian Cabot, Doug McClure, and Anthony George because someone is trying to kill one of the more prominent members John Baregrey and since she's having an affair with him that's just rude. Mrs. Baragrey is played by Lucy Prentis and she thinks the whole thing is rather rude.

Of course she's the obvious suspect, but in a story with a few twists the guys of course come up with the proper solution. I will say the suspect has an unusual yet one of the oldest motives going.

1962 was a banner year for Patricia Neal in that she won her Oscar for Hud that year. The elegant proprietor of the San Francisco Yacht Club and the earthy housekeeper from Hud are about as different parts as you can get, but that just shows what a great actress she is.

Watch Hud and this back to back and you'll agree.
