- Earl Sinclair: Fran, can you bring some more pistachios in here?
- Fran Sinclair: We're all out, Earl.
- Earl Sinclair: What?
- Fran Sinclair: That was the last jar.
- Earl Sinclair: Fran, I don't ask for much from you. A clean house, three square meals a day, gardening, raising the kids, a little light plumbing, scheduled maintenance on the car. So when I ask you to keep a few pistachios on hand, I think maybe you can take a little time to get out of your bubble bath and get down to the market.
- Earl Sinclair: [Richfield picks up a large rock] Oh my gosh, look out, a rock!
- B.P. Richfield: Not just any rock you bonehead, this is a Peacekeeper 3000. I'm not talking about poked eyes, one of these babies can bust a head wide open.
- Earl Sinclair: You sell those to the enemy? But my son is out there, he may even be killed!
- B.P. Richfield: I didn't know that, I also don't care!
- Fran Sinclair: They're throwing dirt clods?
- Roy Hess: Let 'em, our boys are gonna be throwing sticks.
- Fran Sinclair: Sticks! Somebody could put out an eye. Earl, I want you to go there and bring Robbie home.
- Earl Sinclair: Frannie, sweetheart, that's not possible.
- Fran Sinclair: Why not? Our son could be in danger!
- Earl Sinclair: Frannie, it's a military operation. No one's allowed up there, no mommies, no daddies, just soldiers.
- Charlene Sinclair: And USO girls like me.
- [Fran looks at Earl and Roy in consideration]
- Howard Handupme: [reading a report] No! No! Dear God in Heaven, say it isn't so! Please, no!
- [realizes he's on camera]
- Howard Handupme: It's nothing, now here's Dwayne with sports.
- Fran Sinclair: [to Earl] What was it? It was something bad, wasn't it? Why won't they tell us what's going on?
- Earl Sinclair: Hey guys, it's not that I don't blindly believe everything the government's telling us, but what do you think of the news blackout all of a sudden?
- Sid: What're you saying there, Earl?
- Earl Sinclair: I'm saying after all the good news all of a sudden, they're not telling us anything.
- Charlene Sinclair: [after the war is over] I heard that somebody got killed.
- Robbie Sinclair: Yeah, it was some new guy... but you know we could've won!
- Earl Sinclair: Robbie, what're you saying?
- Robbie Sinclair: Well, I'm saying it's terrible that guy got killed and all, but you know we had those four-leggers on the run, we could've won it.
- Earl Sinclair: A boy died, don't you see the fighting didn't solve anything?
- Fran Sinclair: Come on, Robbie, let's get you out of that uniform, you have school tomorrow.
- Robbie Sinclair: Forget school, a bunch of the guys were talking about keeping the army together if they came back, they'll set up a base at the swamp so we'll be ready for them next time. They're working on a WHOLE NEW line of weapons, yeah!
- Earl Sinclair: Stop it! You're not a soldier, you're a kid,
- [pulls Robbie into a close hug]
- Earl Sinclair: You're gonna go to school, you're gonna take girlfriends to dances, you're gonna drive me crazy like you always have, until it's time for you to grow up.
- Robbie Sinclair: Dad?
- Earl Sinclair: It's allright son, it's over... you're home.
