Ernie Banks: Hank was knocked down a lot, he had a lot of pitchers that truly hated him.

Impressive--just like the man.
This installment of "ESPN SportsCentury" is about one of the quietest and underrated baseball heroes--Henry Aaron. Think about it---he broke Babe Ruth's home run record and set a record for total bases BUT he was underrated. All the hubbub about his breaking these records only occurred shortly before he actually broke the records. Through the 50s and 60s, Aaron somehow slipped under the radar and people didn't really talk to him being one of the very best ballplayers of all time.
This documentary talks about him and his career. It includes a few brief comments by Aaron himself but also has a VERY impressive lineup of interviewees--including Willie Mays, Duke Snider (this slugger, inexplicably, was listed as a 'Pitcher' by the documentary folks---oops!), Sandy Koufax, Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks and many, many others. Topics covered were his early minor league career, his battle titles, racism, his breaking records and his feeling left out of baseball after his retirement. All in all, a very impressive and enjoyable film--and like everything made by ESPN Films, very, very well made...and a bit sad.
