- In 2370, Commander William T. Riker is trying to clear his mind and relives the last mission of the first Enterprise on the holodeck.
- Commander William Riker has heard his former ship Pegasus, wrecked, has presumably been found by Romulans and Starfleet wants to excavate the ship before they do. Something seems to bother him however. He asks counselor Deanna Troi to help. She advises him to open Enterprise' last mission in the holodeck. Riker follows the events and takes over chef's character to learn more insights. Enterprise, meanwhile, is making its last flight through space. Captain Archer is on its way to Earth to give a speech at the signing of the charter that will finally mark the beginning of an alliance between a host of alien races. Then he is suddenly contacted by the presumed dead Andorian Shran, who asks for one last favor. His daughter is kidnapped and he wants Enterprise to help liberate her.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- Struck with a moral dilemma, Commander Riker is advised by Counsellor Troi to take part in a historical holodeck simulation showing the final mission of the Enterprise NX-01 and her crew, where she is convinced he will find the answers to all his questions.—movieman_1000
- In 2370, Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), aboard Enterprise-D, is troubled by the events depicted in the Next Generation episode "The Pegasus", and seeks guidance. At Lieutenant Commander Deanna Troi's (Marina Sirtis) suggestion, Riker sets a holographic program to the date 2161, some six years after the events of "Terra Prime", to a time when the original Enterprise (NX-01) is due to be decommissioned after ten years of active service. The star-ship and its crew are also returning to Earth for the signing of the Federation Charter, and Captain Jonathan Archer frets over the speech he will give to the assembled delegates.
En route, Riker and Troi observe as the Enterprise NX-01 is contacted by Shran (Jeffrey Combs), a former Andorian Imperial Guard member whom Archer believed to be dead. Shran is married to Jhamel ("The Aenar"), and their young daughter has been kidnapped by his former associates (Shran was in business with them and they think Shran stole something from them). He asks for Archer's help in rescuing her from Rigel X (His associates have promised to kill Shran's daughter if he doesn't return what he stole). Archer decides to assist, despite Commander T'Pol's warning that they may be late returning for the ceremony.
Riker joins the Enterprise crew (in the simulation) as it assaults Shran's enemies and brings his daughter safely back. Riker learns that T'Pol and Tucker have been separated for 6 yrs (they never had that kid that they spoke about). Archer and Shran fool the enemies with a fake gem (the item that Shran supposedly stole) and get his daughter back and then activate a blinding light jamming device from the gem, to disorient the enemies and defeat them. Archer saves Tucker from death during the operation. Troi also advises that Riker assume the role of ship's chef (as those days the ships didn't have a counselor), hoping to earn the confidence of the simulated crew. As he prepares food with the crew, he learns more about T"pol's memories and impressions of Trip Tucker. T'Pol realizes that she still has feelings for Tucker.
RIker has an ethical dilemma of his own. He served aboard the USS Pegasus before joining the enterprise. The Pegasus blew up in an accident, losing 71 crew, and only 9 survivors. Riker tells Diana that Starfleet was testing a cloaking device when the accident happened. This test was against the star-fleet treaty with Romulans in 2311 which outlawed all cloaking devices. and now Starfleet wants to repeat the experiment by finding the Pegasus. This could jeopardize the treaty, but Riker is sworn to secrecy.
He also watches as the kidnappers board Enterprise, and how, in order to save Archer's life, Commander Tucker overloads two electrical conduits and dies after being mortally wounded. Riker notices that Archer is troubled that he must write a speech about how worthwhile their explorations have been, despite his friend's death, but T'Pol assures him Tucker would have considered it worthwhile. On Earth, Troi watches as Archer enters a crowded grand hall to give his speech and Riker joins her, now sure of what course he should take. The final shot of the episode is a montage of the ships named Enterprise: (NCC-1701-D, NCC-1701, and NX-01) as Captains Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), James T. Kirk (William Shatner), and Archer recite the "Where no man has gone before" prologue.
