The idea for Nero, Carmen's Yorkie, came from Loes van den Heuvel herself. The first trained dog was called Moestiek and died in 2001. Her dog is named after the Flemish cartoon character Nero drawn by Marc Sleen. After Moestiek came Sloeber (2001-2004) and Lily until the show's end.
Carmen's dog Nero, of the Yorkshire terrier race, is introduced. Nero would outlive the show's end 19 years later. The dog is not a puppy anymore but would survive up to 2011. Late December 2020, during a Christmas special, Nero's surreal old age was overlooked by the writers yet again as he appeared to be still alive. The average life expectancy of the race is 13 to 16 years.
Dimitri uniquely wears his dark blue cap with his characteristic dark blue boilersuit. This instead of the more regularly worn red cap.
In one of the first scenes the regulars are all in the cafe for Boma's treat. An important detail is that the music doesn't play to make sure Pico and Doortje's baby Billie can sleep peacefully in his crib before suddenly the radio's turned on when the boy is awake.
The orange jacket that Pico (Walter Michiels) wears, later belongs to the wardrobe of the character Marc Vertongen (Herman Verbruggen). After Walter Michiels's dismissal, Marc went on to wear it with greater regularity than Pico.
