A relic of what Family Guy was
ashsells-248566 August 2020
A great episode from the days of old family guy. Filled with epic fights, strange references, and silly/witty jokes that I did not understand as a kid when I watched it over and over again and now fully appreciate rewatching, for example:

Peter: "this is just like that time I was head of the bulimia clinic" Flash back Peter: "hey did anyone throw from that fish last night?"

This episode also has the beginning of the epic chicken fight and you see the origin of that relationship.

Overall this episode is great. Coherent story, lots of jokes, and memorable quotes.

This is an 8 boarding 9

Warning: Spoilers
So this episode is a "what if" episode about Y2K and it's clear there was a lot of effort put into it, they had to redesign every character and it's really funny also this episode has the first chicken fight and it's not bad. It's 1-2 minutes and kind of funny, the one problem I have with this episode ( the reason why it's not a 9) is because of the lad 5-7 minutes, it feels kind of rushed and it's kind of boring.

Kind of a fun alternative reality here

Like seeing what would happen in a world where Y2K actually was the end of the world.

The thought of them living off of twinkies from the twinkie factory after tons of nuclear radiation was funny, too many preservatives!

The apocalyptic sky is kind of pretty to me.

10/10 -- MY FAVORITE EPISODE!
Analog_Devotee4 May 2021
Da Boom was my introduction to Family Guy, and it left a massive mark on my comedic taste. For a little context, it was the first show of its kind I'd seen, also; I had yet to see South Park, and only had a few Simpsons episodes under my belt. It didn't take long to realize I was watching a show unlike anything else out there.

People these days don't realize what a wild time it was back in '99 regarding Y2K. I remember my grandfather insisting it would be similar to a nuclear fallout, and he hoarded cans of food like a madman. That's what this episode touches on: the insanity surrounding the dawn of the new millennium.

I've been a Family Guy fan (especially of seasons 1 - 3) for a very long time, and to this day I firmly believe this is the best episode in the lot. An incredibly engaging plot laced with the comedy we're all familiar with (at least when it comes to early Family Guy), lots of character development and an overall great time.

(This is also the first episode to feature a Peter vs Chicken fight -- a bit which would turn up countless times over the years.)

Best Episode Yet

To me this is the perfect example of Family Guy at its prime. It's a storyline completely divorced from reality and that allows for some really creative ideas to be presented.

So many amazing moments:
  • the long running epic chicken fight
  • Randy Newman on the piano doing commentary
  • Squid Stewie and his adorable tentacular antics
  • Brian as a sassy Truman Capote
  • the final dream reveal

I absolutely loved this episode.

The One Where The World Blows Up...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It is one of my all-time favorite episodes of the entire series. I just love it so much. It has so many funny moments and it just makes me laugh over and over. No matter how many times I watch this episode, it never gets old, it never gets boring and I never get sick of it.

In this episode, New Years Eve is approaching, and it's the big one. Where the world enters the new millennium. Peter hears that the end of the world is approaching, Y2K, and tries to warn everyone. Of course, no one believes him. He buys tons of pre-packaged food, for after all the bombs go off. And instead of going to a neighbors New Years Eve party, he tricks his entire family down into the basement, so they'll be safe. Whilst everyone is down in the basement, wearing radiation suits, even little Stewie, a few seconds after midnight, nothing happens. The family get up to go to their party, and that's when the world blows up. The family is thankful that Peter was right, but gets mad when he eats all of their food. A years supply. Quagmire and Cleaveland are now fused together and share a body. Joe is infused in concrete in his own driveway and the Griffins head off to find a Twinky factory, because Peter believes they would've survived. Once they get there and the factory has indeed been destroyed, the family settles into the town, and creates it for their own. A year later, you see how the town is not really thriving. Everyone who survived Quahog is there and Peter is the mayor. Stewie was exposed to radioactive stuff and is now an octopus. Yes, you read this right, an octopus. He even lays his eggs. When Peter uses the metal from the towns water pipes to make guns, the town banishes him. But when Stewie's octopus children attack the town, they wish they had never burned the guns.

The only thing that gets me about this episode, is the fact that it never continues on. I know nearly no episodes of any cartoon lead on or are relevant to any other episode, and they didn't decide to make the entire show about after the bombs went off, but still.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10.
