The simplest reason comes from Bill Odenkirk, who explained: "They're gay," a claim supported by their penchant for wearing "breezy short shorts" later in the episode. Others have expanded on Odenkirk's explanation: because Santa might kill them at any time, they hold onto those they care about for as long as they can.
Title screen gag: This episode performed entirely by sock puppets.
