- The article about the Dragonfly comes out and Luke and Lorelai celebrate. Sookie goes into labor. Logan's dad Mitchum reviews Rory's work and Luke has competition from an unlikely source to buy the Twickham house.
- The episode opens with Emily, Lorelai and Rory having a dessert of chocolate fondue. Emily scolds the younger Gilmores for eating only marshmallows and leaving the fruit. She then shows them photographs of ballerinas, saying that she plans to sponsor one for the local ballet. The chosen dancer will come live in their house so that he or she does not have to worry about expenses. After dinner, Lorelai and Rory discuss their plans for Sookie's upcoming baby shower.
The next day, Lorelai goes to Luke's diner to show him a travel magazine in which the Dragonfly Inn is the feature story. Lorelai is happy with the article, but distressed at the printing of some off-color remarks that Lorelai made about Emily in the interview. Their discussion of the article is cut short when Taylor calls to tell Luke that his bid for the Twickham house appears to be going through. Although this is good news to Luke, he keeps a stoic face so as not to give anything away, who still doesn't know about Luke's plan to buy the house.
In the next scene, Rory is at the offices for the Stamford Eagle-Gazette and we see her working at a fast pace and with a great rapport between her and the rest of the staff. Logan comes to see her and the couple chat briefly with Mitchum. Rory is now much more comfortable in her position and with her boss. Logan asks Rory to accompany him to his sister Honor's engagement party that Friday, a tricky proposition since she is promised to her grandparents for Friday night dinners.
We next see Lorelai and Luke are in a limousine returning from a celebratory party thrown by the travel magazine in New York City. The couple confess to one another that they are drunk, and begin kissing. The morning after, Lorelai wakes up in Luke's bed, looking puzzled. As she looks around the apartment and comprehends what happened the night before, a look of alarm crosses her face.
Later that day, Lorelai and Rory meet in front of Sookie's house, planning to set up for that afternoon's surprise baby shower while Sookie naps. Their plans are thwarted when Sookie and Jackson walk out the front door and announce that Sookie is in labor. Lorelai promises to meet them at the hospital as Rory heads back to Yale. Meanwhile, at the diner, Luke gets a call from Taylor. Taylor tells Luke that Kirk has put in a competing offer for the Twickum house. It is then that Luke discovers that Kirk has saved every dollar he's ever earned from his substantial number of odd jobs around town. Luke demands to see the town elders to appeal for the house.
At the hospital, Sookie and Jackson discuss possible baby names. Jackson is excited to have more children, but Sookie is hesitant. Lorelai asks Sookie how soon after conception she knew she was pregnant. Sookie wonders if something is amiss with Lorelai, but Lorelai gives nothing away. However, Lorelai then leaves to find a doctor and asks him how soon she can take a pregnancy test after possibly conceiving. Lorelai fears that she may be pregnant after her romantic evening with Luke.
Still at the hospital, Lorelai receives a call from Emily. Emily asks Lorelai if she can give one of Lorelai's old toys to Pola, the ballerina that is staying with the Gilmores. Emily seems delighted with her new boarder, and Lorelai continues to think about children. Next, Lorelai calls Rory and gives her an update on Sookie's condition. Without subtlety, Lorelai then grills Rory on her own birth control use and confesses that she may be pregnant. Rory and Lorelai then discuss whether Lorelai and Luke having a child together would be a good thing. Not knowing that Luke is considering buying the Twickham house and moving in with her, Lorelai thinks that she and Luke are not ready to settle down together.
In the next scene, Rory and Mitchum are preparing for a staff meeting when Lorelai calls with two pieces of good news: Sookie has given birth to a baby girl and Lorelai is not pregnant after all. Sookie and Jackson are enjoying their first moments with their baby girl when Sookie informs Jackson that she won't be having more children, and that she has scheduled him for a vasectomy ... right away. Sookie then says that their daughter's first name will be Martha, and her middle name will be Janice-Laurie-Ethan-Rupert-Belinda-Carson-Daisy-Danny. She's managed to fit in all of Jackson's proposed baby names.
At Friday night dinner, Lorelai meets Emily's guest. No longer Pola, Emily has traded the young ballerina in for Mikhail, a Russian immigrant. Lorelai steps inside, prepared to show her mother the offending article, which seems to have as much information about Emily's dictatorial parenting as it does about the inn.
Meanwhile, Rory and Mitchum are wrapping up their staff meeting. After dismissing everybody else, Mitchum keeps Rory behind to review her performance at the office. He tells her that he doesn't think she is cut out for journalism, which hurts Rory deeply. Shocked and offended, she tries to act calm and returns to her work. Elsewhere, the town elders take a meeting with Luke and Kirk in a steam room. A fully dressed Luke argues that he is the most deserving buyer for the Twickum house, and to his surprise, the elders agree. He loves the house and Lorelai, and the elders feel that after pining for both for so long, he should have them.
Back at the Gilmore manse, Lorelai shows Emily the article. The article upsets Emily, but bothers Mikhail far more. Lorelai jokingly compared her mother to Joseph Stalin, whose rule in Russia was responsible for destroying Mikhail's family.
Rory, still upset about Mitchum's criticism, skips her grandparents' Friday dinner to find Logan at Honor's engagement party, which is taking place on a yacht. She takes out her anger at Mitchum by trying to pick a fight with Logan, then appears to calm down before suggesting that she and Logan steal a boat so that they can go out to sea on their own. In the episode's final scene, Lorelai's attempts to apologize to Mikhail are interrupted by a phone call from a somber Rory, who is calling to ask her mother to come retrieve her, but from where is not revealed.
