This episode was an homage to the true Gilmore girls spirit when the show had started

Warning: Spoilers
The reason why this episode was such a breath of fresh air was because I felt that at Season 6, GG had drifted from its original spark by focusing solely on drama and the individual problems that both Lorelai and Rory had. While this was to show the other side of their relationship and also showed Rory being defiant and actually gaining a foothold as her own person, I found it to be long drawn out and mundane at the same time. This show from its start had quite some drama but was also hilarious to watch and this episode was the first one in season 6 that I truly enjoyed with all its quick witted humor and steamy fights with Emily and Richard. Friday night dinners in all its glory were the selling point of this show, as we all love to hate them!

All in all, this was the true essence of the show and I was glad to see it back when I watched this episode.

a Friday night diner with Cassavetes

i agree with the others, this episode is great!! the last scene reminds one a little of Cassavetes. the rhythm and ellipses are greatly done. so refreshing to see a work like this on TV. to me, the dinner after which this episode is named, depicts perfectly how emotional baggage builds up until it explodes... and the interpretations of the actors are impeccable; the story Lorelai tells before entering, how she goes from one tone to another, the lunacy in recreating the moment in which she went up to them for back-up, the moment in which she stops everyone from leaving the house. its a very refreshing scene, differently directed!

Hilarious

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best episodes, especially in season 6. Logan helps Rory get out an issue of the paper. Lorelai has to cancel some of her wedding plans due to postponing. And of course the best part of the episode is the Friday night dinner. The way the camera pans around everyone at dinner while they're arguing is brilliant. Then we see cut scenes of laughter, yelling, fighting, etc. It's very well executed. Great ep!

One of The Bes Episodes of Gilmore Girls Ever
Harry_Potter_387 July 2007
This episode has everything Gilmore Girls is famous for: witty dialog and MANY pop culture references. Firstly: Rory and Lorelai's lunch at Yale is HILAIOUS. The references to bridges of Madison County and Mozart pushed it to the top. Secondly: Lorelai's story before they enter the Gilmore house is HILARIOUS! and Finally: THE DINNER the way they were fighting with each other then Rory with Emily and Richard and Lorelai are calm then Richard and Emily fight then they're all laughing is AWESOME. then when Lorelai and Rory exit they look so fluttered and it just made me laugh.

all in all a Ten out of Ten!

Great episode, but a note to Mrs. Gilmore
catnipper404 February 2020
A Letter to Mrs. Richard Gilmore:

I have something to say to you about an "only child". You have said that an only child is always spoiled and I amd TIRED of hearing it.

My repsonse to the Only Child is, "Yes, I am 100% responsible for what happens in the house(cooking, cleaning and gardening). I am also responsible to give the eulogy, write the obituary and plan the funeral for my parents."

An only is NOT always spoiled.

In spite of all this, you're a great actress. I really do enjoy this show.

Logan
appnzllr-127 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Why did the writers think that everyone wanted Rory and Logan to get back together? He was the most despicable of all the guys on the show. He was despicable in these episodes, and he was despicable in the follow-up they did later.
