- The girls' relationship is on shaky ground after Lorelai comes home to find out that Rory slept with a married Dean. Lorelai's disapproval is apparent and Rory refuses to discuss it further. Rory attempts to clarify the situation with Dean, but ends up getting physical again with him in Mrs. Pattie's School of Ballet, then goes to Lane for a little perspective. Sookie is thrilled to find out from Kirk that Lorelai and Luke kissed, and Lorelai and Luke are relieved to find they're both happy about taking their relationship further. Luke takes a trip to the Renaissance Festival in Maine to help Liz and T.J. recover after they break an arm and leg in an accident. Emily confirms that she and Richard have separated, and Lorelai pushes Rory to go with her grandmother on a trip to Europe.—Allison Kauffmann
- Rory and Dean cuddle after Rory loses her virginity to a married Dean. Rory selects "Candy Man" as their song to remember this moment. Lorelai comes home to find Rory and Dean coming out of Rory's bedroom, and doesn't approve of the situation. The two fight, and Rory won't talk to her mother after she's been chastised. Rory calls Dean's phone, but Lindsay answers.
- Emily and Richard come home feuding (fueled by his dishonesty and secret lunches with Pennilyn Lott). Emily decides she wants to take a trip to Europe. While looking for her luggage, Emily gets locked in the basement, and (in a Lorelai-like act) climbs out the window and loses her skirt.
- Lorelei, Luke, and Sookie care for Kirk after he had a night terror and fell into the rosebushes. Kirk reveals to Sookie that Luke and Lorelai kissed by recounting his dream. Sookie expresses her happiness to Lorelai about the kiss with Luke. Luke and Lorelai are processing that they're together, and both hope each other are happy about it. Sookie questions why they're concerned with having the news out.
- Lindsay questions Dean about why he's been working late and when he'll be home next. Dean is upset with Lindsay for answering his phone when Rory called, claiming he might lose work. Dean feels guilty in his discussion with Lindsay, after coming home from being with Rory.
- The Dragonfly Inn is bustling on its opening weekend. Jackson brings the baby over to visit Sookie at the inn, and Taylor complains to Michel and Lorelei about his missing and chewed-up shoes. Lorelai makes Michel replace the shoes because his dog stole them, and because Michel keeps advertising pampering services such as a "shoe-shine service" to the inn's offerings, despite the inn not offering those services.
- Rory comes by the inn for breakfast, to face a bristly conversation with Lorelai. Lorelai tries to talk to Rory about the event as a friend and attempt to figure out how to handle it, but Rory avoids the talk.
- After avoiding the talk all day, Lorelai and Luke talk about their kiss, and are relieved to find they both are happy about it and want to continue their relationship.
- Rory meets Dean at Miss Patty's School of Ballet to talk, but the two end up getting physical again before she can ask questions about what kind of a relationship they're in or what this means to Dean's marriage.
- Rory confesses the past day's events to Lane, and discusses her first time. Lane puts her band practice on pause to be a good friend to Rory. Rory wants perspective and wants to talk about what she did, and starts to feel bad she didn't ask more questions of Dean.Lane suggests Rory goes to Lorelai for a frame of reference, but Rory refuses.
- On the way back to the inn, Rory guiltily observes Lindsay discussing how to make a pot-roast with the butcher, and how her dinner tonight with Dean has to be perfect.
- At lunch at the inn, Emily confirms with Lorelai and Rory that she and Richard are separating.
- At Lorelai's suggestion, Rory joins Emily on a trip to Europe to get away from Lorelai and the Dean situation
- Lindsay successfully cooks Dean a pot-roast
- Luke tells Lorelai that he has to go to Maine to help T.J. and Liz with their booth at the Renaissance festival, after each broke and arm and leg. Luke and Lorelai resolve to keep their relationship going to see where it ends up.
