A lot to like and dislike

Warning: Spoilers
I love seeing this fun side of Richard! That's my favorite part.

Rewatching it makes me really like Rory and Marty.

Lorelei took forever to agree to go on a date with Jason and finally agrees to spite her mom. The first thing he says is to wear something totally evil? What kind of sexist bull is that.

The date part of this episode is so cringe. I actually love the supermarket part but Lorelei needs to get a grip. On a first date you don't flat out say I don't like this and act like he is so wrong and she is always right when they are different. I'm just not a fan of Jason in general or this relationship.

So good then so bad

Argh why is the second half so cringe???!! It's got to be one of the worst bits of the whole Gilmore girls series.

It starts so strong with the the Gilmore clan attending the Yale Harvard game and the nostalgia is palpable along with the over the top RV situation for Richard and Emily (complete with BYO maid)!

Then they had to go and ruin it with the (IMO) worst character of the series (Logan a close second) - Digger aka Jason.

He's just totally ick. Never warmed up to him. And Lorelais reaction to being seated in the "wrong area" at the restaurant was just completely cringe and unlikeable. Bad choice.

Boy, Lorelai is immature

I am rewatching the whole series. I love it. It stands the test of time. I love the fact that every character has his/her/their voice. One new sensations sticks out: I cannot stand Lorelai. Even for a maturity stunned character who decided at 16 she could raise a child unsupported, thus depriving said child of all the privileges she herself was raised in. Created a codependent cocoon in which wit is supposed to be a substitute for manners, so much so that her daughter had to assume the role of the mother in the relationship (being responsible, focused, open to being different from her mother without trying to attack every aspect of her personality) Lorelai is annoying to the point of fast forwarding all the scenes of her and the various appallingly treated men she ends up dating. Heather Graham made the impossible with a very unlikeable character.

Warning: Spoilers
This could be the best feeling good episode of the show, but suddenly Lorelei acts like in the pilot as the most stupid woman on the planet.

I know it's a dramedy but too much stupidity feels awkward.

Richard, Emily, Rory, and Lorelai attend a Yale versus Harvard game together. Lorelai meets Richards college sweetheart, Pennalyn Lott, and chaos ensues. Emily finds out that Richard and Pennalyn have been friends for years, often contacting each other without Emily knowing. Emily takes her anger out on Lorelai, who ends up going on a date with Jason "Digger" to spite her mother.

Lorelei needs to grow up
Grace88823 September 2022
I am in the middle of rewatching this series and wow, I never realised when I originally watched this how amazingly immature, annoying and incredibly selfish Lorelei is and this episode brings it to the forefront! If it is not on her terms she is a brat! She crashed the footy game and then destroyed everyone around her, Jason takes her on a lovely date and she throws her toys out of the pram as it is not something she likes! Lorelei doesn't grow up at all! The sad thing is I know it doesn't get better. I spent the original time watching this hating Lorelei's parents, but rewatching it, yes they are still bad but Lorelei never grows up!
