ComedyFan201020 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Sophia's friend who was a nun dies and Sophia is very upset. She decides that she should now become a nun as well for her friend. Dorothy first doesn't take it seriously but then understand that Sophia really plans to do it and supports her. So Sophia works on entering the convent, but the nuns don't think she has the discipline and obedience for it because she always behaves the way she wants. Dorothy has to tell her the bad news. But she assures Sophia that her life isn't meaningless as she helps people without being in a convent.

A good episode. Both very funny, with original idea and makes one feel for the characters we love so much

Sister Sophia meets the Penguin.

Warning: Spoilers
The sensational Kathleen Freeman has a memorable appearance as the Reverend mother in this episode when Sophia, grieving over an unseen nun friend, decides to enter the convent. of course, she's a stubborn old pack mule of a woman who won't follow the rules, and that will not do when you are under the sum and the ruler of an nun like Freeman. Having proved her ability with a ruler as Sister Mary Stignatta in "The Blues Brothers", Freeman is hysterical, and she has truly classic moments with Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty. The secondary story, of selfish Blanche dinging Rose's car which causes her to be sued is not nearly as funny, although the final shot as Sophia returns home and that story is resolved does make up for the weakness of that part of the episode. interestingly enough, Freeman would soon be donating the habit once again shortly after this to play a nun for several months on "General Hospital", being as delightfully imperious as she is here. She would return to the Mary Stalignotta role a decade later in "The Blues Brothers" sequel that was only funny when she appeared.
