John Vernon and Fred Euringer
kevinolzak20 August 2016
"The Wild One" opens with Native American doctor Tanama Brent (Fred Euringer, first of four) setting up his practice in a community of white settlers, which doesn't sit well with trader Jess Adams (Chris Wiggins, first of six) and his rabble rousers led by Rego (John Vernon, second of eight). Living with Tanama are his wife Mara (Joan Blackman, first of two) and son Cochea (Michael Ontkean), the boy good friends with Ted Adams (Bobby Barringer, first of two), the offspring of Tanama's greatest enemy. Only after successfully driving a fever from the ailing wife of settler Jeffreys (Arch McDonell, first of four) do the townspeople accept the new doctor, before severe intimidation tactics are used to keep them in line. Tanama is virtually a beaten man, until an emergency arises involving the injured son of racist Jess Adams. 14 year old Michael Ontkean makes only his second TV appearance, the son of regular HAWKEYE actor Len Ontkean, veteran of seven episodes, Joan Blackman a longtime television actress still in her teens this early in her career, while John Vernon's second straight entry finds him a supporting villain, yet more dangerous than his employer.
