The entire cast and crew traveled to Michigan to film the program on location in the northern Michigan town of Leland, Michigan.
Filming commenced the second week of August. On Thursday, August 10, 1995, dozens of spectators were on hand to watch the filming of scenes at Leland Lodge in a portion of the program. Other locations featured included Sleeping Bear Dunes and water skiing on Elk Lake.
Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld was scheduled to visit the cast and crew on the day of the filming at Leland Lodge but was forced to cancel after her plane made an emergency landing in Escanaba because of mechanical difficulties. Upon hearing the news of her plane trouble, Tim Allen jokingly offered to "fix the aircraft" with the help of his onscreen sidekick, Al, played by Richard Karn.
