Which Witch is A Witch?
ExplorerDS678920 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Tim Taylor has gotten into the Halloween spirit, but sadly, it seems the rest of the family hasn't followed suit. His fake bloody, severed heads in the refrigerator, and a long, bloody...whatever the hell that was that popped out of the sink didn't make any impression on Jill and the boys. It seems Brad and Mark have grown out of Halloween pranks and Jill is desensitized. Perhaps it's time to change up the act and not rely on the same old tricks? And speaking of which, it's on to Fool Time! It's Medieval Torture Chamber week as Tim, Al and Heidi examine ye olde pain makers. All the while, Tim seems to be carrying around a false hand. He chops it off on the guillotine, and as Al bends over to pick it up, it grabs him! Looks like Tim is still the reigning king of pranks, but something tells me that won't last. At home, Tim helps Wilson chop wood for his big Halloween bash that night. In the process, Tim accidentally chops right into his foot! Turns out it was only a prank, but Wilson was scared to death. Tim thought it was funny as hell. Ooh, he's stirring up some karma.

On to Wilson's Halloween party. Tim's dressed as one of the wicked witch's flying monkeys and Jill is a witch... duh, right? Wilson introduces Tim to his new special friend, Agatha. She's a witch... a real one. Naturally Tim thinks she's bogus and ribs her for it, and then when he and Wilson have a talk, they both agree she's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and it even appears that Wilson is afraid of her. Tim suggests he be honest and break it off gently. Gee, I hope nothing goes wrong. The next night, the Taylors invited Wilson over for dinner, but he never showed up or called. A worried Jill sends Tim over to see what's keeping him. Wilson's house was trashed, and in the center of the living room, Wilson's hat, with Agatha's amulet underneath. Fearing something nefarious was going on, he called the feds. Tim tries to explain that a witch is the culprit, but naturally they don't believe him, especially when all evidence suggests that Tim would have a motive to do away with Wilson: his will naming Mr. Taylor the sole beneficiary, and his fake prop ax lodged in a door names Tim the prime suspect. So bad cop and badder cop grill him at the house, which is now a crime scene. Actually, it's a prank scene. Everybody is in on this one. Let's see how the Tool Man likes a taste of his own medicine. So the more Tim tried to convince everybody he was innocent, the crazier he started to sound. Even Jill and Brad may not entirely believe his innocence. What's more, they're called out to Wilson's yard where, shock of all shocks, Tim sees Agatha...who's from the crime lab. It's now a murder investigation and Tim is placed under arrest. They wheel out Wilson's body. Suddenly, he jumped up and yelled boo! Gotcha! The king is dead...long live the king. But with Tim being Tim, you know he'll find a way to reclaim his throne.

Home Improvement's last Halloween episode, and boy does it deliver. It's hilarious, and in some places, genuinely creepy. It hearkens back to Season 3's "Crazy for You" where Tim's friends and family come together to play a joke on him, and like with that one, I think it could have worked without letting the audience know ahead of time that it was all a prank. And much like with that episode, Tim can't let the others win so he gets back at them. He's a sore loser. So anyway, this Halloween season, I recommend you apply a little Home Improvement. Much like their Christmas episodes, the Halloween ones really capture the spirit of the ghoulish season. There's "Flying Sauces", "Haunting of Taylor House", "Crazy for You", "Borland Ambition", "Let Them Eat Cake", "I Was a Teenage Taylor", "A Night to Dismember" and this one. Check them out and have a spooktacular season!
