Lewis and Sheppard arrive on scene. As soon as they are out of the car, Sheppard yells at Lewis for his poor driving. She asks him for the car keys.
The victim is David Ralston, single gunshot to the upper torso. The officer on scene says a neighbor came over complaining of a loud TV and when he didnt get a response, called 911. The victim lived with his brother who was not home, and the next of kin is their mother. There was an unfired, fully-loaded pistol by his side.
Sheppard finds the house strange there are two of everything chairs, ashtrays, TVs. They go to the mothers house and tell her her son was killed. The victims twin brother comes out from behind her.
Ballard and Munch make fun of Gharty who is leafing through a biker magazine. Munch sees Bayliss leave a Zen for Beginners book on Sheppards desk and is surprised that Bayliss is interested in her romantically.
The brother, Adam, left the house to give David privacy with his date.
Ballard and Gharty are at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Their victim, a teenager named Scotty, was brought in dead, but the teenager who brought the victim in, said that he placed the victim in his car as soon as he was shot and drove straight to the hospital. The doctor says the victim lost a lot of blood on the way.
Davids girlfriend, Susan Dehen, tells them she was there but left early. They had an argument, the same as usual, about too much twinage. The brothers did everything together. Once when David arranged a weekend for him and Susan at a romantic bed and breakfast, Adam showed up. She admits she never had a chance with David because David was in love with Adam.
The friend says they were sitting in their car when Scotty was shot in the head in a drive-by. They were ten minutes away from the hospital and the friend says Scotty was talking to him the whole way. They dont believe him it took too long for him to drive to the hospital from where they were. Gharty takes out his cuffs and the friend confesses they were in D.C. to buy crystal meth. They were making a buy when they argued with the dealer over price and the dealer shot Scotty. The friend drove all the way back to Baltimore because if their parents found out they went all the way to D.C. to score some meth, that the parents would kill them.
Falsone goes to a bar and finds Mike there. Mike tells him hes thinking about transferring to Baltimore, but the only positions the FBI has are a liaison to local law enforcement, and a position in CIB. Plus Mike will have to tell Gee.
Ballard and Gharty show Gee the bloody car. Since the victim was shot in D.C. and died on the way to Johns Hopkins, the case could fall under the jurisdiction of the D.C. police or Baltimore. Gee tells Ballard to call D.C. and diplomatically dump the case on them.
Lewis and Sheppard are at the Ralstons place of work. A coworker describes how the brothers worked together as either sweet or perverted. The only time they argued was over Susan.
A neighbor tells them David was the dominant twin. Another neighbor says Adam was always seeking Davids attention and might have been jealous of Susan.
Mike is interviewing with Gaffney. Gaffney suggests that if he gives Mike the job that Mike side with Gaffney and Barnfather and not an unstable influence like Gee.
A D.C. detective finds Ballard and Gharty for the sole purpose of telling them that D.C. is not taking the case. Ballard argues that there is a 17 year-old victim in the morgue and that he at least owes the dead boy a few minutes to question the friend.
Lewis is trying to figure out what Sheppard did in the talent portion of her pageant. Gee walks in to the break room and chides them for taking a break while the victim is still in red on the board. Lewis says they need more time for evidence and a better motive than jealousy. Gee tells Sheppard she has the potential to become a good detective and that she shouldnt try to emulate Lewis who is a lazy detective.
Bayliss asks Stivers for insight on Sheppard but she cant understand why the men are buzzing around Sheppard.
Adam is in the box. Lewis and Sheppard play up how close the brothers were and were inseparable until Susan showed up. Lewis notices Adam has two of the same wristwatch on one arm. Adam said David always insisted they have two of everything.
Lewis reminds Sheppard that David was killed with a copper-jacketed bullet which was the same kind as in the gun found next to his body. Since the brothers had two of everything, the other gun must be missing. They cant confront Adam with this because he would know they are lying, so they decide to re-question the mother.
Ballard and Gharty and the D.C. detective cannot get anywhere with the friend, Dean. Hes unable to keep any element of his story straight.
The mother guesses it was her fault for raising the brothers the way she did. Sheppard asks why the mother wasnt shocked when they told her David was killed. The mother, sensing the trap, swears she will not lose her remaining son. Lewis gives up and leaves to find Adam.
Gaffney tells Gee that the chief of police in D.C. called Barnfather and that Baltimore will have to keep the case. Gaffney then tries to provoke Gee about Mike applying for the liaison position. Gee lies that he knew that was Mikes intention, he just didnt know Mike was meeting with Gaffney. Gee tells his secretary to call Mike and to get Ballard and Gharty.
Ballard and Gharty and the D.C. detective are at an impasse. Gee assigns his team the case but attaches the D.C. detective as well. The D.C. detective recommends they take Dean and drive around D.C.
Lewis and Ballard find Adam at the mortuary. They immediately go high pressure on how David was the better twin in every way.
They drive around D.C. and Dean is more useless than ever. Gharty is impressed with the D.C. detectives Mustang convertible.
Gee meets Mike on the rooftop. Mike doesnt understand why he has to consult with Gee regarding the position if Mikes had to make decisions on his own all of his life.
Sheppard thanks Bayliss for the book. They talk about the Ralston case and siblings. He is about to ask Sheppard something but shrugs it off.
Lewis tells Sheppard Adam is holed up in his house with a gun. Lewis is surprised the place is swarming with SWAT. Sheppard puts on her vest and insists on going in with Lewis. They enter and Adam is pointing a gun to his head. They get him talking and he lowers the gun and walks around the living room. He proudly declares that he had sex with Susan, she thinking he was David. Last night, David found out and refused to believe Susan did not know it was Adam. David had his gun, so Adam went to get his.
Adam is now standing in front of a mirror, holding a gun to his image, recounting what happened. As he continues to explain, his gun goes off and the mirror shatters. He says it was an accident. Ralston is rewritten in black on the board.
Ballard, Gharty and Landusky return to the precinct. D.C. will take the case because Dean recognized some of the places they drove to. Ballard takes a shine to Landusky and tells Gharty she wouldnt mind dating him. Gharty tells her he left Flora that morning that ever since the squadroom shooting, he has not felt the same about anything.
Falsone and Mike are talking at the marina. Mike was accepted for the position as agent-liaison to the Baltimore PD CIB. Mike says Gee reacted the same way, like a sphinx. Mike admits Mario was like a dad to him, but it never occurred to him that Gee needed someone to be his son.
At the bar, Munch cant believe Susan did not know it was Adam. Sheppard muses that theres more to sex than just the persons face. Lewis agrees. Munch leaves for a date with Billie Joe. Lewis tells Sheppard about his mentally-damaged brother. He starts putting the moves on her, but Bayliss walks in and joins them.
Gee shows Mike his office and offers to help him set it up. Mike says hes fine but wouldnt mind having access to their coffee pot.
Ballard welcomes Mike and recommends he go to The Daily Grind across the street for coffee. The squadroom phone rings, unanswered. Mike picks it up.
