Harm says he was once before on the USS Hornet, but the following flashback clearly shows a banner reading "Welcome ... Family and Friends ... Ticonderoga", clearly indicating that the ship in question is the USS Ticonderoga, which was Harmon Rabb Sr.'s duty station during his second tour, not his first.
When giving the compartment designation for Lt. Tate's berthing, they used the usage designation as "P" or Papa. There is no such designation. All berthing compartments, even the Captain's and Admiral's cabins, are Living spaces and have a usage designation of "L" or Lima.
It is stated that Harm's father made at least one cruise on the Hornet. Not if he was flying F-4 Phantoms. As with the Ticonderoga, F-4's never flew off either ship. The Phantom was just too heavy. The flight decks of the Essex class carriers could not handle that kind of weight.
Adm. Chegwidden states that a body was found in a void and Mac replies, "Void? " Harm tells her that a void is an empty space between the double hulls. A void is actually any compartment or space that has no designated function. The "address" of any such space ends with the letter "V."
When talking about the Skoshi Tigers ("Skoshi" means little by the way) Rabb talks about them being based in Bien Hoa and and pronounces Hoa as "Ho." There must not be any Viet Nam vets on the crew because Hoa is pronounced "Hwa"
About two-thirds of the way through the episode, when Mac and the Alameda detective met up outside the ship, the time given by the show is 1135 Zulu. The problem is that 1135 Zulu would be 3:35 in the morning in Alameda, California (or 4:35 am if Daylight Saving Time is in effect). The scene is fully bright with sunlight, appearing to be about midday. As such, the correct time should have been either 1835 Zulu or 1935 Zulu (depending on the time of the year and therefore Daylight Saving Time).
The dialogue consistently suggests that the Hornet was still in service in 1975 when Lt. Tate was entombed in the void. The Hornet was in fact decommissioned in 1970 and was in reserve in Washington five years later.
Mac wore a skirt while boarding the USS Hornet. Skirts are inadvisable for walking around ships especially rusting ones. She at least should have worn service trousers.
The contractor mentions Dog Watches in his list of bad memories. There are 7 watches in the Navy:
mid-watch - midnight to 4 a.m. [0000-0400]
morning watch - 4 to 8 a.m. [0400-0800]
forenoon watch - 8 a.m. to noon [0800-1200]
afternoon watch - noon to 4 p.m. [1200-1600]
first dog watch - 4 to 6 p.m. [1600-1800]
second dog watch - 6 to 8 p.m. [1800-2000]
evening watch - 8 p.m. to midnight [2000-2400]
The Dog Watches were established during the days of sailing ships when the ship's crew was divided into two sections or watches. These made it so that the men would not be standing the same watch every day.
