Best episode.

Best episode of the whole series. I usually watch it for Harm and macs relationship, but this episode was both sad and thought provoking. Excellent performance by the guest main actor.

Powerful!

Warning: Spoilers
I've only recently begun watching JAG on DVD. I never saw the series in first run. However, having retired from the Army I'm impressed by the respect for the military in this series and its faithfulness to depict accurately military customs. This episode was a powerful dramatic presentation, and the guest star who portrayed Willie did a masterful job. The story was full of pathos and anyone who had served in Viet Nam wouldn't need reenactments to comprehend Willie's horrifying memories of being a POW.

Powerful, moving, well-written and well-acted

Warning: Spoilers
We learn some more about the mythology surrounding the character of Harmon Rabb Senior in this episode. The wheelchair bound character (named at the centre of this episode) emotes well as he reveals his painful experiences.

We also meet Dalton Lowne (who will employ Mac in a later episode) and Detective Coster (who will cross paths with both of these characters in a later episode. Plus, Harm picks up more intel, regarding Russia, to aid (or confuse?) his search for his father.

The scripting was excellent, the camerawork was tight and the characterisations were profound.

Filmed in 1997, this episode looks back nearly 30 years to experiences in the Vietnam War which had ended some 22 years before. Viewed during a repeat season in early 2021, the powerful message of this episode has not diminished in the intervening decades.

War is hell.

Agree with other user about depiction of Vietnam war. Was a usaf veteran from 1983-1990, and got to know senior ncos and officers who served in Vietnam. After service met many veterans who suffered from ptsd from the Vietnam war.

Anyway, getting back to episode, Kevin Conway was excellent as Willie. His recollections to Harm about being a POW is chilling, especially term of King of Fleas was a collaborator and weakest man in pow camp.

Also, chilling is when Willie tells harm about soviets coming to camp to send American pilots back to Russia for interrogation. That plot point will become important later on as Harm does go to Russia to find his father.

Anyway, Kevin Conway was so good that he came back in the later episode Martin/Baker Fan Club
