Kojak has history
bkoganbing18 August 2019
There's a mob killing as Mafia prince Fred Beir is shot to death and the prime suspect is his widow Jennifer Warren. But there's no evidence.

Because way back in the day Telly Savalas had some history with Warren, he sort of stands back and let's Kevin Dobson take the lead. Still Savalas is pulling strings in the background. When the situation calls for it Lt.Kojak can be subtle.

Warren has a bottom feeding boyfriend in Granville Van Dusen an outstanding guest star turn. And Sam Jaffe as the victim's father is something special.

The ending, right out of The Maltese Falcon.

A different kind of episode
Ralpho10 February 2023
Having watched every Kojak episode from season one to this point, I noticed a remarkable change in the show. Suddenly there was more humor; almost slapstick. Crocker falls for a suspect. And the camera work was excellent; especially when it follows Kojak and McNeil up the stairs and into the squad room.

Rizzo and Stavros cutting up for the photographer was hysterical. I was immediately reminded of "Barney Miller," where Wojo and Harris might have done the same thing.

Ratings for "Kojak" were tanking during the fifth season, so what we see here (and from here on, I imagine) is the result of trying new things to revive the show. I like it so far.

Easily the last season.....

Warning: Spoilers
I just don't know what happened with Kojak but this episode was great proof the show wouldn't be around for another season. Crocker seems to become more of a total moron over the series run. Falling in love with criminals and doing things that cops (especially tough NY cops) just wouldn't do. Even Danno would know better. This episode just bugged me and I feel the need to warn anyone like me who is new to the show that it seems to get worse and worse over the 5 year run. I love Telly and Kojak is a great show (especially the first 2-3 seasons). I can just see why it was canceled soon after this. Is it just me or did they make a new rule in Hollywood in the late 70s that ordered all television writers to dumb down the writing about 75%??? I marked spoiler but there wont be in this review. Just do yourself a favor and skip over this episode. It's tough to watch Crocker being so weak and manipulated.....something that does not fit his character in the least. Jennifer Warren does do a good job of making the audience hate her character though. Previous episodes of the last season aren't nearly as bad as this one was and I hope the rest wont be either.....

Kojak and the femme fatale
coltras358 July 2022
When Carol Austin (Jennifer Warren) is suspected of murdering her mobster husband, Lt Kojak surprisingly turns the case over to Crocker. But Kojak has very good reasons for not wanting to renew an old acquaintanceship with Carol.

Jennifer Warren conveys her manipulative character very well and her ability to get the opposite sex do just about anything for her, but other than that it's not a standout episode, lacks that extra something.
