It's okay...though a tad sappy.

I love old 1950s teleplays and have seen dozens. A few are on archive.org and quite a few more are available on DVDs from Criterion as well as Alpha Video. The Alpha copies are very cheap...but also not particularly good quality. I saw "Kelly" on a DVD from Alpha that also had "The Machine Calls it Murder"...a particularly outstanding teleplay. As for "Kelly", it's just okay.

The story is about a soldier named Kelly who fell for a French girl during WWII but lost contact with her. Now that she's coming to America, Kelly is frantic...as much of what he told her about himself were lies. Instead of being a 'rich oil man', he co-owns a gas station! In addition, Kelly and the girl know about some stolen gems...gems the US government want returned to their rightful owners.

The romantic portions of the film seemed rather sappy and forced. Additionally, when the American soldiers talked to the locals, they were beyond stupid and knew far LESS French than you'd learn in a Pepe Le Pew cartoon! A mildly interesting story makes this one at least watchable.
