John Maucere, John F. Cleary, and Camille L. Jeter are all deaf actors who did their own signing. Camryn Manheim, who played defense attorney Martha Rollins, had been a deaf interpreter before becoming an actress. Leon Russom, who plays Gordon Bryce, was not fluent in American Sign Language and did no signing in the episode, although he plays the founder and director of the Bryce Institute.
Both Paul Robinette (Richard Brooks) and Jamie Ross (Carey Lowell) played Assistant District Attorneys when regulars on Law & Order. After leaving the show, both returned and played defense attorneys in later episodes.
None of the scenes in this episode take place in court. The "Order" portion takes place in the D.A's office and judge's chambers, but no one actually stands trial.
Jamie Tirelli has portrayed four different characters over the course of the series:
- Episode 1.12 Life Choice (1991) - CSU Rivera.
- Episode 3.22 Benevolence (1993) - Chick Sullivan.
- Episode 4.17 Mayhem (1994) - Santana.
- Episode 10.17 Black, White and Blue (2000) - Sergeant Palacio.
Chris Noth (Detective Mike Logan) & Jamie Tirelli (Chick Sullivan) also worked together on Killer Song (2011) (episode 2.18), as Peter Florrick & Luis Flores respectively.
