First appearance in the Law & Order franchise for Tamara Tunie, who would later have a run as medical examiner Dr. Melinda Warner on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)."
This episode appears to be inspired by two separate cases/incidents:
- The story of Jeffrey Nichols (a.k.a. "The King of Deadbeat Dads").
- The 1992 Robert Hendy-Freegard case. Freegard was a British barman, car salesman, conman and impostor who masqueraded as an MI5 agent and fooled several people to go underground for fear of IRA assassination.
Jerry Stiller (Sam Pokras) previously played the role of Michael Tobis in The Fertile Fields (1992) (Episode 2.19).
Jordan Lage has played six different roles over the course of the series:
- Episode 6.13 Charm City (1996) - Jury Foreman.
- Episode 7.7 Deadbeat (1996) - Charles.
- Episode 9.6 Scrambled (1998) - Dr. Harvey Purcell.
- Episode 11.18 White Lie (2001) - Buddy Marks.
- Episode 13.1 American Jihad (2002) - Jeff Bodner.
- Episode 19.21 Skate or Die (2009) - William Tyrell.
- Episode 18.2 Darkness (2008) - William Tyrell.
