The name of Wally Stevens, the Mark Linn-Baker insurance-fraud investigator character, is taken from Wallace Stevens, the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet who also worked as vice president of the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company.
The character "Jeanne Marie Lofficier" is named after Jean-Marc Lofficier. Like Gerry Conway, credited writer of this episode, Lofficier is a prolific comic book writer.
The plot of murdering homeless people for insurance fraud was also used in CSI: NY: Second Chances (2009).
Ken Cheeseman (Leo Gergis) also played the part of Dr. Anthony Clayton in Episode 6.2, Tru Love (2006).
