A young man just released from prison is determined to go straight. However, his efforts are being sabotaged by his girlfriend's brother, a no-account gambler who has massive gambling debts to a man who wants to collect.
Jed Lorimer is released from prison on parole to Earp in Tombstone. He was helped by letters written by his girlfriend Marge Davies, her brother Phil and their father Sam. Earp trusts Jed but asks him to keep an eye on Phil who works at the bank but likes to gamble and is in debt to Dapper Courtney. Shotgun catches Courtney with a concealed weapon and brings him in. Fed up with Courtney's actions Earp gives him 24 hours to leave town. He hopes it will take pressure off Phil but doubts it. Courtney has given Phil two days to pay his IOUs but Phil loses the $500 he borrowed from Marge under false pretenses. Courtney suggests to Phil they involve Jed in a scheme to steal the mining payroll Phil is to deliver to the mine the next day. Phil declines to involve Jed but agrees to be held up by Courtney once they agree on Courtney depositing Phil's share back in a bank safety deposit box. Jed following Phil overhears the plan. He decides to take the money from Phil and return it but Courtney stops him and frames him for the theft. Jed refuses to tell on Phil making it hard for Earp to resolve the issue.—Anonymous
