- TriviaThough the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis did establish a law school in 1888, law school at this time was still a relatively rare route to becoming a lawyer. Most lawyers served apprenticeships and prepared for the law under the guidance of a mentor. In a few states, it is still technically possible to take the bar exam without attending law school, though an apprenticeship is still usually required.

- Quotes
Alan Barton: How do you feel?
Adam Kendall: Lousy. I feel so weak.
Alan Barton: I'm not surprised, you've been a mighty sick man.
Adam Kendall: What time is it?
Alan Barton: It's after noon.
Adam Kendall: I have to get up and dressed. The test is soon-
[he tries to get up but Alan pushes him down]
Alan Barton: Hey, slow down. The test was over with three days ago.
Adam Kendall: What?
Alan Barton: You've been asleep for three days. When I said you were sick, I wasn't foolin'.
Adam Kendall: Oh no. Oh my god.
Alan Barton: Well, I agree. It could've been alot worse.
Adam Kendall: But the test...
Alan Barton: To heck with the test! You're alive.
Meanwhile, Adam is working hard studying, then taking the exam. Unfortunately, he is mugged then gets sick from being stuck out in the rain and leaving the hospital early. He misses the exam, but don't worry, Mary comes in to save the day!
Things will really change for Mary and Adam after that. The blind school is pretty much gone. I believe there is one more episode that features the school, but after that things happen to move on. I'm guessing the writers and producers have tired of the story and decide to push the show into another direction. The direction Adam and Mary's life takes doesn't survive, however, and by the end of this season they are gone – moving far away for a big job in a law firm.
More comical relief is provided by Nellie and Harriet. Of course, my favorite part is Nellie's helping her mother with a corset. The popcorn, of course, is pretty funny as well.
