Your horny doctor

Sometimes I need to remember that this show is basically a campy comedy and not written for thespians, which I'm clearly not, and not to take anything too seriously. As silly as this episode turned out to be, it was still mildly entertaining, and boasted some familiar faces including: Ray Bolger, Harriet Nelson, David Hedison, and Diana Canova. I'll give a very quick line or 2 about the 3 stories; Horris and Henrietta(Bolger and Nelson)are 2 old geezers who survived the Titanic, but they are considered jinxes because several mishaps happen to the crew whenever the couple's around. The weaker story has identical sisters(Canova)both taking turns seducing Dr. Bricker, who's just a tad unprofessional, if you ask me; the other story has Julie's old flame, who she calls Buddy, played by a bored and wooden Hedison, come aboard the ship, and she's stupid enough to think that he'll propose to her since he's recently divorced. To wrap this up, even though this episode bordered on the sublime at times, there was some mindless fun too.

Jinxed by Twins and the Flame

Warning: Spoilers
It's Thursday night. My son, Little K, is in and out of the room with fury. He never slows down. Meanwhile, I'm busy getting deep into the bowels of The Love Boat season one. I don't know Diana Canova from anything but this show, but she's adorable. Here she plays identical twins. What a predicament! The twins brought along a dozen matching outfits just to save money by purchasing one ticket. 'I think I'm in love,' Doc says upon seeing her. Of course, one of the twins likes Doc, the other doesn't. 'Doctor, I like that prescription. Can I get a refill?' Ray Bolger is an old-timer, of course, still getting it done 40 years after The Wizard of Oz. Harriet Nelson plays his wife. (Son Ricky will appear later.) They play Titanic survivors (are they old enough? Oh well.) The crew starts to think they're jinxed. Isaac slips and falls into the pool but manages to keep the drinks upright. What a pro! Meanwhile, David Hedison plays Julie's old flame. (Emphasis on old.) I like Julie, but, uh, she gets around a little too much for me. It generates lots of episode plots, I guess. Hedison wears white swim trunks. I don't have the guts! Julie wears an eyepatch and tries out for villain status. I like her poolside sailor outfit. Sail on, Sailor. Alana Stewart is a famous rock wife, but here she is. She plays the new thing here. I remember seeing her on episodes of Tattletales. I do dig Julie's shiny metallic night robe. Julie is less of a raging sex-crazed feminist in these early episodes and more like a damaged little girl. On Kafka's Love Boat Scale, this episode gets 3 * out of a possible 4*.
