This was the second episode produced, and after seeing it NBC decided (with Executive Producer Joe Hamilton's approval) to shelve the series until spring to work out the problems. When the show came back, Supervising Producer Ed Simmons and Producers Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon had been added (Clair and McMahon were already staff writers who got promoted). Harvey Korman began doing extra duty as a director, shared with Roger Beatty (when The Carol Burnett Show (1967) Director 'Dave Powers' became available for season 3 Beatty became his assistant). This was the lowest-rated episode of the first season, airing just after NBC had renewed the series.
Viewers of the show in syndication often wonder why this episode appears to be out of order. It's not out of order. The Alistair Quince intro done for the NBC shows is edited out for syndication (It's been put back in on the DVD sets). In that intro he explains that this is a flashback episode and the events depicted took place before Vinton married Naomi.
Claude Cainmaker's first appearance.
It is never explained how Vinton is not married to Naomi in this episode, when Vinton and Naomi got married in the 3rd episode of the first season. This is episode 11.
