Solid episode with no sign of Crockett
Tweekums17 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Crockett is away testifying in court so when a drug dealer is murdered by somebody called Martillo Borrasca trying to raise funds to finance a right wing coup in a South American country Tubbs and Switek are in charge of the case. It becomes clear just how dangerous Borrasca is when an old friend of Lt. Castillo is murdered after he volunteers to do some undercover work. If the case wasn't dangerous enough it turns out that a CIA man, Edward Reese, wants Borrasca to get away and continue his counter revolutionary activities.

While Crockett is a great lead this episode didn't suffer from his absence; in fact it was good seeing Tubbs take the lead and Castillo take a larger role than usual, Philip Michael Thomas and Edward James Olmos do fine jobs in the roles. Of the guest stars Brion James was the most memorable as he did a great job as the morally dubious Reese. There is a decent amount of exciting action although the machete attack is obviously off screen!

Not a bad episode!
mm-3927 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode, but not memorable. A Castillo episode. Another episode with out Crockett so Borrasca is a Castillo character driven episode. Misses the wit an sarcasm of the Crockett character, but Borrasca still keeps the gritty character and feel of the Vice series. The over serious Castillo episode is entertaining with Castillo past haunting a present investigation. A violent, and tense episode has an edge when Castillo's nemesis a fellow company man interferes with an investigation. The nemesis just kills it with the role. The visit to Castillo's house and the explanation of I am justice vs you follow a code a values which weighs your Job, and doing right thing stinks and good people do not want to do the stink jobs is memorable. A tense ending with a memorable conclusion. The guest character saves the episode. 7 out of 10 stars.

More unnecessary animal cruelty shown

Was it really necessary to have this cockerel killed at the beginning? There's a bit too much of this gratuitous animal abuse goes on in Miami Vice. Also it's a totally drab episode without Crockett, whatever the excuse.
