The series planned to bring Heather Locklear's character of Amanda Woodward (the daughter of Linda Gray's Hillary Michaels) into a recurring role in Season 2 by setting up a story line late in Season 1 for potential cross-over episodes from the series Melrose Place. However, FOX Network told the producers that the show had a "1%" chance of returning due to low ratings and low viewership, so they decided to not bother because they knew they wouldn't get any more episodes to tell that story.
Fox was leaning towards cancelling the show by the time the S1 finale (series finale) aired. But it let the show film a tag scene that could be either used to continue the series in a 2nd season, or provide a non-cliffhanger alternate to the ending that aired on Fox. This more conclusive scene was used when the show aired in syndication.
