- The noise and costumes of the Mexican "Day of the Dead" fiesta make it hard for Jessica to identify a killer.
- Jesscia is on a working holiday with her friend Cyrus Ramsey, archaeologist at the Mexico City museum, whose exposition's prize piece (the Aztec emperor Montezuma's golden death mask) was just stolen. It's found with the reputed illegal collector Enrico Montejano, a self-made tycoon whose young lover's (Rosa) father, Juan Garcia, was just fired after a row over that affair. US DEA Agent Ramirez warns her not to hinder their drug investigation. She inquires about Rosa's dead fiancé Jason Powell.—KGF Vissers
- Jessica is in Mexico visiting her friend archaeologist Cyrus Ramsey and doing research for her new book. She arrives to learn that Ramsey's prize display in his museum, a golden mask of Montezuma, was stolen the previous night. During the costumed Day of Dead celebration the next day, local hotel owner Enrico Montejano is shot through the heart, with Montezuma's mask placed over his face. There are several suspects, including the hotel manager Juan Garcia, who had argued with Montejano as Garcia believed he was having an affair with his daughter Rosa and the dead man's wife. Montejano had many enemies, however, and Jessica determines that the solution to this murder lies in first solving the death of Rosa Garcia's fiancé, Jason Powell, who died a year ago.—garykmcd
