A welcome reunion

Warning: Spoilers
The one thing that stands out about this episode was the Doctor who McNamara approached who had been involved in malpractice and who turns out to have been his role model. I racked my brain to try to identify the actor until I realised it was Geoffery Lewis in a truly subtle, nuanced and emotional role. I hadn't seen his work for so long (I think maybe an X Files episode ten years ago) and it was good to see him still working. The issue of transgenderism was also sensitively dealt with, but apart from Lewis's appearance, there is little else about this episode to set it apart from others. The concerns Matt had about possible STDs resulting from a one-night stand was not as believable, but then I'm rather watching the show backwards and hate the character. www.tracesofevil.blogspot.com

Tasteful and impressive handling of a controversial issue

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the most impressive episodes of the season because of the way it handles a taboo subject in an incredibly tasteful and informative way. The issue of transexuality is one that is still by-and-large not understood by mainstream society and for a mainstream TV program line Nip/Tuck to send out such a positive message about transgenderism really impresses me. Hopefully this will have dispelled some myths and at least taught some people that transgender people are just like everybody else; they're not freaks to be laughed at and ridiculed. Until the fourth season Nip/Tuck will continue to sensitively handle and variety of issues and bring them to the forefront in a way no other show on TV does, before it descends into a farcical freak show in season 4.

This episode however is very impressive, and well worth a watch...

I really wanted to smack the kid in this episode...

Interesting enough episode, although the ending really blew it for me. I have been losing taste very, very quickly for anything involving Matt's sex life. After the self-circumcision I was ready for that whole thing to just be put to rest for good, but I guess the show is about surgical bodily mutilation so such a request sounds a little ridiculous. I liked the way the whole story about his first sexual experience was handled, it was a great bit of fear when he thought he might have an STD, and hopefully the teenagers in the audience will take note. I am a pretty liberal and tolerant person, but the transsexual thing was pretty distasteful to me. I was surprised that I was having a hard time eating while I was watching the show, but I guess Nip/Tuck isn't the best show to be watching dinner in front of, you know?

But the thing that really drove me nuts was at the end when Christian had bought the Lamborghini and tossed the keys to Matt so he could drive. Matt pauses for a second and then tosses the keys back, saying You know what, I'm not you, uncle Christian. I want a girl to like me for who I am, not for the car I drive.

Holy crap I wanted to punch him.

I've already contacted all of my friends and family to tell them that if I ever turn down a chance to drive a $250,000 car but pass it up because I want to be liked for who I AM that could they please beat me about the head and shoulders with a large blunt object. I'm not picky. A toaster or an external hard drive or maybe one of those Kryptonite U-locks or even a garden hose would suffice. But it would be of the utmost importance that I learn a very, very valuable lesson.

I already know enough not to try to circumcise myself though, so any beatings would not be necessary were I to attempt that. Maybe some kind of psychiatric intervention would be prudent in that situation...

Mediocre at Best :-(

I didn't like this episode all that much. I don't know exactly what it was, but after three excellent episodes in a row, this one was just plain disappointing. It was bad, but it wasn't the worst or anything. I liked the whole deal with Matt's first sexual experience and there was a lot of tension involving STD's. I also liked the overflow of foreshadowing, especially to the later seasons. The whole trans-gender subplot was, for the most part, pretty dull and uninteresting, although it was neat to see Sean warming up to the patient, and relating to her. It was also cool that Christian gave something up, and he truly felt like he had made a mistake. Mostly, I didn't like this episode very much at all.

Bad take

Warning: Spoilers
This is a bad take on the transgender community!! Instead of using a real transgender person or a female like they did in the movie, Trans America, they use the most male looking guy they could find!! You could see his touch make skin, his male features all around & worse than that, you could see his five o'clock mustache!!!

Good lesson to kids... don't engage in unprotected sex, especially with someone who is doing so multiple times a day. However, I'm wondering how the woman got an infection in her urethra after oral sex. What?!
