Patty observes that landing a man on the moon has "practically" been achieved. She was merely voicing a belief in 1964 that such a feat would soon become a reality, especially given that, on 25 May 1961, President John F. Kennedy, in a Special Message to Congress on Urgent National Needs, exhorted the U.S. legislature to fund the goal of such an endeavor. Congress obliged and eight years later, 20 July 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon.
The three pictures on the wall in Patty and Cathy's bedroom are poses from Ricky Nelson, who was a part of the long-running The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952); Jimmy Dean, who appears one time in the series in The Songwriters (1963); and Vince Edwards, who was appearing as the titular character in Ben Casey (1961) at the same time this episode originally aired.
