The title of this episode is reminiscent of Charles Chaplin's movie The Great Dictator (1940), which is also a comedy involving two look-alike characters played by the same actor.
Harry S. Truman is the 'great' president to whom both Patty and Cathy attribute the "if you can't stand the heat" quotation. He is reputed to first use this rejoinder while senate chair of a contracts investigating committee during WWII.
