Ad man Herman Albright has just about had it with his wife and her gambling habit. She has just recently lost another $5,000 at the tables - money he will have to borrow from his boss, Walter Caffrey, and he decides to end their marriage. Another incentive to moving is that he's fallen in love with Grace Halley, the model who will be appearing in his new ad campaign. Albright fancies himself something of a ladies' man but has clearly misunderstood anything Grace may have said to him. In fact, she is already married but has kept that a secret so as not to harm her career. She consults with Perry Mason about whether her contract can be broken by either side, but it appears she cannot break it. After Albright is found dead in his car, his wife Ida identifies the body but tells Lt. Tragg the clothes he is wearing are not his normal clothes. Grace is charged with murder based on a photograph and a neighbor seeing her removing men's clothing from her apartment. A case of mistaken identity is central to solving the case.
