- Pete is injured, so Favor and Rowdy into a nearby town for a doctor. Because the town lynched a man the day before, the residents along with Favor and Rowdy are held hostage until the Sheriff and the man who led the lynching are also hung.
- A rattlesnake spooks Pete's horse followed by a steer goring him resulting in him bleeding too much to be moved. Favor and Rowdy ride into a nearby town for a doctor but find the residents ruing a lynching the day before. Before the men can leave with the doctor, the town is taken hostage by the family of the lynched man. They plan to hang the Sheriff who they captured and the leader of the lynch mob Kels Morgan. Favor hides Kels in a dry well. Favor and Rowdy try various ideas for help but when Kels can't be found, the Mason family threatens to burn the town. In a secret town meeting Favor reveals where he hid Kels but the town members decide they must confront the Mason family. The youngest of the Masons has tried to stop his father so when he sees there may be bloodshed he tries to ride for help while the girlfriend of the lynched man confronts Kels. Unexpected results in both situations ends the situation but not without pain.—Anonymous
- Favor can't bring the town doctor to aid stricken Pete at the herd because distraught rancher Jed Mason is holding the entire town hostage as he seeks those who lynched his son. The son had murdered a respectable townsman, and as a result, Kels Morgan instigated a mob which knocked the sheriff unconscious and lynched the son. Now, Jed Mason and his clan are going to hang both the sheriff and Morgan once Morgan, hiding in town, is captured. To prevent anyone bringing in outside interference, Mason and his men have cut the telegraph line, stampeded the town horses, confiscated most of the guns and stationed gunmen in lookouts around town. Mason threatens to burn down the town if Morgan is not found by sundown. Favor and some towns people know where Morgan is hiding. They have to decide whether to turn him over. And Mason's youngest son is distraught by his father's actions, and has to decide what to do.—chipe
