Keith Hernandez had never heard of Seinfeld before agreeing to appear in this episode and the previous, episode 3.17 The Boyfriend (1992). He was initially told he would have only two scenes, with very little dialogue, but he ended up with six scenes and numerous lines. A framed picture of him can be seen in Jerry's apartment in episode 3.1, The Note (1991).
