Beggars of the Sea
Prismark1016 February 2021
More cunning from Francis Drake to help out Dutch sailors.

The Spanish have borrowed money from bankers in Venice and will be sending a shipment of gold to their cousins in Netherlands.

They will use the money to pay the Spanish soldiers who are on the verge of mutiny.

Queen Elizabeth has guaranteed the Spanish ship safe passage. No English ships will attack it.

Drake pretends to be a dutch sailor and uses the small boats of the Dutch sailors. The beggars of the seas to attack the Spanish ship.

The basis of the story is very much in line with naval stories from those buccaneering days and even in the time of the Napoleonic wars.

The Queen has kept her promise and the Spanish have made a costly loss. They owe the bankers a high rate of interest.
