- Clark meets Arthur "AC" Curry, a young man with extraordinary powers underwater. AC is in Smallville hoping to sabotage a Luthorcorp experiment that is threatening sea life. While in Smallville, AC forms an attraction to Lois.
- Lois Lane returns to Smallville, and while swimming in Crater Lake during a summer outing with the group, she nearly drowns and is rescued by Arthur Curry, a student of the Miami University. They develop a crush on each other, but Clark is suspicious of AC since he noted his abilities underwater. AC (later to be known as the superhero 'Aqua Man') discloses to Clark that Lex Luthor is developing a weapon to the U.S. Navy that is a menace to the marine life. Clark in principle does not believe AC, but later he realizes that his fears are correct and he helps AC to sabotage the experiment of Luthorcorp. Meanwhile at Kansas University, Clark becomes close to his Prof. Milton Fine, a man who is writing a book about the evilness of the Luthors.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Lois arrives back in town as Clark starts his first semester at Kansas University. A trip to Crater Lake turns sour when Lois nearly drowns, Clark attempts to save her but is beaten to the punch by Arthur Curry (later to know as the super hero 'Aquaman'). Arthur, or A.C. to his friends, begins a relationship with Lois, but has another reason for being in Smallville; to stop a new weapon being designed by LuthorCorp that is causing untold deaths in the local marine population. Meanwhile, Clark develops a close bond with his new history professor at Kansas University, the mysterious Milton Fine, who tells Clark of his plans to write a book to bring down the corrupt Lex Luthor.—Shiro
