Warning: Spoilers
Tom's relationship with CIA agent Christine Dale is under pressure from Harry Pearce.

It intensifies as Christine reveals some important information that came to her by mistake to Tom. An American assassin has been hired to kill a prominent person in England. The CIA is in on it.

When the Chief of the Defence Staff is killed, Tom is a suspect. Now he is on the run from Harry and he is wanted as an agent gone rogue.

Tom has been set up by a legendary American spy who was long thought to be dead.

With actor Matthew Macfadyen announcing that he is leaving the series. The tense second series finale borrows heavily from the ending of the French New Wave film, The 400 Blows. Tom Quinn has nowhere to go and no one he can really turn to.

Spooks certainly goes out on a cliff-hanger with a question hanging over how much Christine Dale was involved in framing Tom. The director certainly left her intentions murky.
