Storyline

- TriviaCoda is a musical term used to denote a short extra passage added to the end of a musical composition, unrelated to the structure and themes of the main musical material. The title of this episode is used to describe the short limbo "afterlife" Janeway experiences, indicating that this "coda" may suspiciously not be related to her life at all.
- GoofsAfter her second "death" in sickbay, Janeway was able to make Kes sense her presence through physical contact; however, when Tuvok and Kes attempt to locate Janeway telepathically, she makes no attempt to touch either of them.
- Quotes
[last lines]
Captain Kathryn Janeway: Come on, Chakotay. I cheated death. That's worth a celebration, don't you think? Bottle of champagne, moonlight sail on Lake George. How does that sound?
Commander Chakotay: Like something worth living for.

Starts promising, ends disappointing
The episode starts like Groundhog Day: Chakotay and Janeway are trapped in a time loop, crash land on a planet, are chased by Vidiians and slightly change their actions with each loop. But half through the episode it turns into Ghost and just like Patrick Swayze, Janeway wanders around trapped in a near death state trying to communicate with her crew, especially with Oda Mae Brown aka Kes because she has telepathic abilities. And just like in Ghost, she can walk through people and closed doors, but she does not fall through the floor of the ship - a mystery only film makers can explain.
It is never explained, why at first she had visions about a time loop that later do not mean anything anymore.
The whole episode feels like one writer had a great idea with a time loop scenario but stopped writing the script half way through and then another writer picked it up and just added a completely other story that has no connection to the first part.
In the end we just have a disappointing near death experience in which Janeway is possessed by an alien that tries to trick her into letting go so he can nourish on her soul in his realm, what he calls the "matrix". He disguises himself as Janeway's dead father and tries to convice her, that she is also dead and should just accept death and leave her life behind.
5 points for the first half. 0 for the second half.
