Roxann Dawson did not find this episode a comfortable experience. She cited this as the worst episode she ever took part in, due to the fact that her pet dog died during filming, and all she had to do for that week, while grieving, was lie on a bio-bed.
Robert Picardo loved doing this episode due to the opportunity to work with David Clennon, with whom he is good friends in real life.
Producer Jeri Taylor's first produced Star Trek script was Suddenly Human (1990) and the last was this one, "Nothing Human."
The idea of this episode was originally considered for Wrongs Darker than Death or Night (1998), featuring a Cardassian doctor conducting immoral experiments aboard Deep Space Nine on Bajoran children during the Bajoran occupation.
