There is a scene where Dr. Daniel Jackson is explaining to the rest of SG-1 about the history of a Goa'uld named Setesh (aka the Egyptian god Set or Seth) on the Internet. The on screen information actually contains information/history from the White Wolf role playing game "Vampire: The Masquerade" concerning a clan of vampires who also worship the Egyptian god Set.
The burning material O'Neill uses on the fence is a thermite application with a magnesium fuse, capable of attaining 4500 degrees Farenheit.
Robert Murray Duncan (Seth) also portrays Daniel Jackson's father in the Season 2's The Gamekeeper (1998).
Seth's cult bears some resemblance to the real-life Branch Davidian cult headed by David Koresh. As with Koresh, Seth has long hair and wears casual clothing while having his share of concubines. In 1993, or four years before this episode aired, federal agents including members of the ATF surrounded and attempted to storm Koresh's compound when it was discovered that he had a large stockpile of weapons. Ultimately, the siege ended in a fire that killed 75 people, including Koresh.
This episode includes the introduction to Samantha Carter's brother, Mark.
