Who Is Tyler?
claudio_carvalho19 October 2016
Sam, Daniel and Teal'c return to the SGC after a battle against a great number of Jaffa; however Jack is left behind protecting Tyler, the new member of the SG-1 that is wounded on the leg. They request General Hammond to send a team to rescue Jack and Tyler, but nobody knows Tyler. Sam, Daniel and Teal'c are isolated while Dr. Fraiser tries to find what happened. Meanwhile Jack and Tyler has to fight to survive. Who is Tyler?

"The Fifth Man" could be one of the best episodes of Stargate SG-1. Unfortunately the segment with Colonel Frank Simmons is annoying and quite pointless. On the other hand, the participation of Dr. Janet Fraiser is increasing in each episode. My vote is eight.

Paging Lt Tyler

Another clever episode of SG1, at no point did I really know what was going to happen next, and I appreciate that. Colonel what's his name is going to be a problem for sure.

Warning: Spoilers
Dion Johnstone who plays Lieutenant Tyler ( an Alien) also plays Shaka the Unas in several episodes of Stargate SG-1. Great episode, wish they could've done more with this specific Alien race, they looked amazing

Nothing is wasted in SG-1

Warning: Spoilers
Teal'c, Jackson and Carter jump home, while Jack and Tyler are left at some Ghoul-Goa'uld planet to fend for themselves- But wait, who is this Lt. Tyler? As far as the three that made it back are concerned, he's been with them as if a regular on the show.

This is the magic of Stargate SG-1. Introducing a new Alien, and a new Concept- One which will help Jackson fool the Goa'uld in future eps. But at the time this was aired, it was just a gimmick used by an Asgard-Type Skinny-Butted Alien to protect himself.

If the reason SG-1 was created was to start collecting alien Artifacts to help Earth fight against the Goa'uld and other nameless, faceless threats, by Season 5 they had collected quite a few things: Zat's, X302's, even a few Death-Gliders, and many many staff weapons.

The gimmick they are able to acquire in this episode becomes very useful. So, bring it down to Area 51, and let Rodney MacKay start dissecting it- While he is still in the Milky Way Galaxy.
