A friend of Hooker's who was a cop turned P. I. was killed while he was investigating some arson fires. Hooker thinks he was killed by the arsonist because he was getting too close. At first, it seems a psychotic arsonist is at play, someone whose only motive is starting an explosion for kicks, but it's all do with insurance ...
Lively enough entry, with some explosions; some getting too close to Hooker and Romano; the arsonist (David Caruso without his sunglasses) plants a bomb under their car, but radio waves gives Hooker the gist that a bomb is planted. On a lighter note, Romano has a computer system to help him pick a winning horse. Hooker teases him about it. The rapport between Hooker and Romano is one of the best thing of the show, whether it be comical interplay or a serious talk about issues.
