Gut-wrenching episode

I was a huge fan of Third Watch when it was originally shown - I never missed an episode. Like so many other fans - I was extremely concerned after 9/11 - wondering how many of the real fire-fighters, officers and EMT's who were part of the show, were at WTC, and if they all made it. When it finally came back on the air, I remember watching this episode, with my stomach in knots, knowing how life was going to change forever for the characters.

I started rewatching the show and have been reminded how incredibly good this show was. In watching this episode again - even though I knew what was going to happen, I still had those knots in my stomach. The writers and the actors do a fabulous job of showing how absolutely normal the day before and the morning of 9/11 was. The episode was handled with respect and is a wonderful tribute to all the heroes who worked at the towers. Faith and her husband arguing about her recent diagnosis, and Fred being all upset about being delayed getting back to work when the subway stopped in the tunnel. The overnight shift of the firehouse jumping on the truck, even though they were off. And poor Sully - after seeing the news and then having to run to work, leaving his soon-to-be wife on their wedding day. All of this showed how quickly life can go from being completely normal to being a complete disaster. Just an amazing piece of writing and acting.
